Umberto Lenzi died about a week ago. We pay tribute to his memory the way we tend to do on this show. That is, we review his most notorious film. We didn’t say it was his BEST film. We said it was his most notorious. Here, from the man who originated the short-lived cannibal “genre” of trash cinema, is Cannibal Ferox.
Based on the novel by Ray Bradbury, from a script from Ray Bradbury, this was a bit of a dark turn for Disney at the time. We both love this film and we think you will too.
The poster art alone is scary enough. There may not be the scariest movie behind it, but it’s high camp 80’s schlock and it takes place during a Halloween party in a possessed (not haunted – know the difference!) house, so it may just be what the doctor ordered for you this season. Give it a listen and see if you agree with our assessment of this cult classic.
Terrible acting, nonsensical plot, blatant ripoffs of much better films, and some brother-on-sister action are just a few of the things that makes this the must-watch film of the Halloween season. There’s no better film to kick off our 2017 Halloween series. Enjoy!
