The Midnight Hour

This made-for-TV movie event from the 80’s starred some well-known faces, but it hasn’t remained well-known. You probably missed it when it first aired, and it enjoyed an extremely short release on home video and DVD that you probably missed too. But don’t miss our discussion about this film that, despite its many flaws, had some good moments and didn’t fail to put us in the Halloween spirit.

Three men are in a chilling kitchen, with blood-stained walls hinting at the eerie tales fit for a horror movie podcast. One dons a scout uniform, clutching a duck and trash bag. Another stands in khaki, while the third sports a white suit and matching hat. All have distinct badges on their hats. 0

Intruder (1989)

The Sam Raimi team of misfits gathers together in 1989 to add to the growing pile of middling 80’s slasher films, this one surrounding the night crew in a supermarket that is too small for its own good. Sam and Ted Raimi, Martin Sheen’s daughter, and even Bruce Campbell all make appearances, with effects by The Walking Dead goremeister Greg Nicotero.

In a dimly lit, chaotic scene reminiscent of a horror movie podcast, a person in a suit with a distorted face stands near a sign that reads "Grand Opening." Behind them, another figure in a crown sits amidst bones and candles, eerie red lighting amplifying the unsettling atmosphere. 0

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Part 2

We chose this film to finish up our month of notorious #2’s because Hooper and Co. decided to go a completely different direction with a wacky, gory comedy, instead of the shocking straight horror style of the original (which did, truth be told, have its own darkly comedic moments).

House 2: The Second Story

Very different in tone from the original House (which we have previously discussed), we had fond memories of this horror-comedy from our childhoods. Have a listen to see if the film measured up to our recollections.
