Here is a list of films we have reviewed that either take place during the Halloween holiday or are otherwise somehow appropriate viewing material for the Halloween season. Maybe they involve classic monsters or genre mashups, or invoke the spirit of Halloween in a particularly solid way. Or, as Craig often likes to say, “This is great to have playing in the background during a Halloween party when you’re having a few beers with your buddies.”

  • Tales of Halloween

They just don’t make ’em like this anymore. We thought Tales of Halloween was a solid horror anthology that was perfect for the season.

  • Terrifier

    Terrifier

This crowd-funded unrated indie film became enough of a sleeper hit on streaming services to warrant an unrated sequel with a groundbreaking release in theaters nationwide. We don’t know how they managed to pull that off, but our mini-top hats go off to the creators of Art the Clown, a successful new addition to the…

  • The Curse of Bridge Hollow

    The Curse of Bridge Hollow

New kid moves into a new town and unleashes ancient magic from an artifact she found in the attic of her historic house. Sound familiar? Despite an under-utilized cast of stars, groan-worthy cliches and flat jokes, there’s some easygoing magic at work here that will appeal to kids and adults alike who can handle the…

How does this sequel stand up the original? And how does this first installment bode for the trilogy of…

  • The Guest

    The Guest

Perfect for the season, and also a “perfectly serviceable film” by our standards, with a “smooookin’ hot” guy leading the action.

  • The Houses October Built

    The Houses October Built

It started out as a documentary on haunted attractions around the USA during this season, but became repurposed into a found footage-style horror film. Our reactions were mixed, but there is some fun footage and interviews here of real haunted house attractions and actors that will definitely get you in the mood for the season.…

  • The Lady In White

    The Lady In White

How did we ever miss this one? We tackle a spooky ghost tale that just sits perfectly for the Halloween season. Not only does it center around Halloween night, but it’s one of those “kid horror” flicks that we have a serious soft spot for. Long requested by loyal listener and good friend, Heather, we’re…

  • The Midnight Hour

    The Midnight Hour

This made-for-TV movie event from the 80’s starred some well-known faces, but it hasn’t remained well-known. You probably missed it when it first aired, and it enjoyed an extremely short release on home video and DVD that you probably missed too. But don’t miss our discussion about this film that, despite its many flaws, had…
