Alligator
Alligator has nothing remarkable about it, except that there are some remarkable people involved in it, and it has an inexplicable 80% plus fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes. Who can figure this out? We can’t.
This is Jim Carrey’s big breakthrough – his first starring role as a frustrated teenage virgin who can’t get his girlfriend to give it up, so he turns to a female vampire instead and gets more than he bargained for. It’s goofy as hell and 80’s through-and-through, which means we more or less loved it.
Braindead is often cited as the goriest film ever made, and it’s hard to dispute. But it’s a big favorite of Todd’s, and a request from at least one of our listeners over the years. Enjoy!
There’s Nothing Out There is an amateurish 80’s movie that nevertheless was, in some ways, ahead of its time. But there’s a lot of heart here, and some genuinely fun and funny moments. Directed by a 20 year-old from a script he wrote as a teenager, this week’s movie was fun to watch and discuss.
Even though it’s a found-footage movie, even Todd found something to like about it.
And what a ride it is. We found more charm here than your average , thanks to some excellent writing, great cinematography, and the decision to “keep it real” on the…um…beaver effects.
